ITINERARY
Day 1 - Welcome to Tbilisi!!!
After picking you up from the airport we take you to a hotel near the center of the city. Spend the day exploring or relaxing. Tonight we meet and greet at Onward HQ for our tour briefing. Early tomorrow our adventure begins.
Day 2 - Tbilisi to Oni (250 KM)
We meet early in the morning at the Onward Garage. We suit up and ride west out of the city. We take the windy roads north up to Chiatura. An old mining town with soviet-era cable cars strung all over the city and then continue onward to the highlands of a region called Racha. Tonight we stay at one of our favorite guesthouses in all of Georgia. Its like a museum there! We feast on local food, drink the home-made wine and learn about the history and culture of Georgia.
Day 3 - Oni to Martvilli (150 KM)
Today we have a few different ways to get to Martvilli. Depending on weather and road conditions we can do do it all offroad or stay on the pavement. Whatever the group decides! En-route there are multiple caves we can stop by, Prometheus caves being the most popular. Once we get to Martvilli we cool down at a secret swimming spot that only the locals know about.
Day 4 & 5 - Martvilli to Mestia (180 KM)
Whoa! Today is gonna blow your mind! Crazy backroads to the highland townlet of Mestia (2000 meters). Alpine meadows, glaciers, massive defensive towers and the picturesque village of Ushguli. Ushguli is one of the highest altitude continuously inhabited settlements in Europe! We guarantee you've never seen anything like it! We have a free day here to explore the surrounding areas. There are lots of different options today, our favorite being the ride up to Koruldi lakes, a ride on the Hatsvali ski lift, visiting a local museum full of historical artifacts of the region, and climbing 4 stories to the top of an medieval Svanetian defense tower.
Day 6 - Mestia to Kutaisi (230 KM)
We wake early and if weather permits we ride the Zagari pass (2620m). The journey offers astounding views of mountain peaks, luscious valleys, and the remains of pre-historic glaciers. This can get pretty gnarly but its always a phenomenal ride. Lots of photo opportunities to be had! We then head south to Kutaisi.
Day 7 - Kutaisi to Vardzia (200 KM)
Heading south today on a big chunk of offroad over mountain ridges. It's a lesser known trail that we usually have all to ourselves. There are some spectacular drone opportunities in this section of awesomeness. We stop for lunch after exploring the once secret Soviet observatory hidden high up in the mountains and then make our way to the monumental cave town of Vardzia. Once there, we park the bikes and head into the mountains. Its easy to get lost in there! Over 500 caves in total it takes almost 2 hours just to go through the main section. It is guaranteed to blow your mind. Tonight we celebrate our last night of the tour at riverside cottages eating fresh caught trout and drinking locally made wine.
Day 8 -Vardzia to Tbilisi (200 KM)
Last day on the road, we ride east to Tbilisi. We stay on the easy twisty paved backroads avoiding all highways passing vast lakes and small villages on the way. We finally arrive back to the Onward Garage where we crack open adult beverages and bask in the glory of an adventure well earned. Congratulations! You made it!
